SUMMER SPOTLIGHT: TIMBER FESTIVAL

Fall under nature’s spell at this fiercely hopeful forest festival in Derbyshire…

Do you prefer your festivals to start with sunrise yoga shortly followed by a secret woodland DJ set with the new pals you just made in the sauna?

We certainly do.

And if that wasn’t enough to recharge your batteries and get your dancing feet moving, you can lose yourself to the sounds of a Dave Haslam set before watching the sun set from Timber’s very own stone circle. The dream.

OH, and did we mention Timber Festival has FREE warm shower points throughout? So don’t worry, you can leave the baby wipe shower kits at home for this one.

Sounds like the dream festival to us, to be honest.

About the festival

Timber Festival (5-7 July 2024) is an immersive and revitalising weekend festival in the National Forest, celebrating our relationship with trees and woods through carefully curated musical performances, installations, debates and workshops. Music, art, and ideas weave together during this three-day festival tucked away at Feanedock, a 70-acre woodland site at the heart of the National Forest. For three days in July, new thinkers, activists, makers, artists, musicians and writers gather to play, provoke and inspire as we explore our relationship with nature. Timber Festival is created by award-winning festival and event producers, Wild Rumpus.

Timber is all about falling under nature's spell, taking time to connect with nature and rethinking our relationship with the natural world. Take your pick from outdoor art installations, breathwork sessions, yoga, foraging walks, outdoor theatre and, of course, some amazing DJ sets in the woods and live music as the sun goes down.

Music

Whatever your taste, you’re in for an auditory treat at Timber Festival 2024, as this year’s lineup brings a tantalisingly diverse range of sounds. The scene will be set by Kiiōtō headlining the opening night, showcasing their hotly anticipated debut album. There will be no shortage of outstanding female talent on the line up, with electro-folk artist Frankie Archer and Rozi Plain (of This Is the Kit) providing an ethereal soundtrack to the festival.

Activism and Talks

Timber has a whole area dedicated to ‘battle-cries and bold words’, where visitors will be able to learn the tactics and tools of protest – joining in with workshops delivered by environmental groups Right To Roam and Trash Free Trails. All The Elements CIC, who work to increase diversity in the outdoors, will be bringing a new range of voices and conversations to Timber, supported by outdoor apparel company, Patagonia.

Wellbeing

Timber is known for its creative wellbeing, movement and mindfulness offering. Festival-goers are invited to stretch their bodies and centre their minds – and try everything from laughter yoga to forest bathing, Bollywood dancing workshops to gong baths.

Art & Creativity

Trailblazers in the Outdoor Arts scene, Timber have programmed a spectacular circus show on a rig built from giant bamboo by NoFit State Circus. Crowds will be hypnotised by artist Mark Anderson’s Warning Notes, a large-scale installation which uses ‘sound sculptures’ - gongs, bells, whistles, and explosions - to give voice to the climate crisis.

And for those who want to get hands-on, Timber will have a whole area dedicated to ‘Craftivism’, a space where visitors can make and create things with their own bare hands - from knitting and weaving to working with wood and twine.

Tickets

Tickets are on sale at www.timberfestival.org.uk, and are currently £70 for an adult day ticket and £175 for a weekend ticket. Residents of the National Forest get a huge 25% off all tickets. Timber also has a three-tier ticketing system in place, allowing those unable to pay the full price a subsidised entry. Please see Timber Festival’s website for more details.

Timber is created by award-winning event producers Wild Rumpus, in partnership with the National Forest Company.

Timber is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
