TRANSPENNINE TRAIL

A national coast-to-coast route perfect for exploring some of Greater Manchester’s most idyllic spots

Stretching a mammouth 370 miles across the North of England, completing the length of this traffic-free cycling route isn’t for the fainthearted.

Don’t worry, if you - like us - prefer your bike rides to be a little more leisurely, Manchester’s section of the TPT offers plenty of places to explore.

Starting at Chorlton and travelling towards Alrtrincham offers plenty of pitstop opportunities — from Dunham Massey and the waterpark itself, to Jacksons Boat and The Mersey Valley.

Heading towards Stockport instead offers you more hidden gems to explore, including Reddish Vale Country Park and Stockport’s famous Hat Museum, to the beautiful surrounds of Wythenshawe Hall and Werneth Low Country Park.

Do bear in mind that this isn’t the most well maintained of routes — some parts along the bank of the Mersey make for a bit of a bumpy ride, but a scenic one nonetheless!
