Based on the Victorian theme of landscaped views and natural features, Biddulph Grange Gardens and its surrounding Country Park offers you the chance to explore a historic landscape designed by its early 20th century creators.
The incredible garden was created by James Bateman for his colelction of plants collected from around the world — a visit here takes you on a global journey from Italy, to the pyramids of Egypt, a Victorian vision of China and a recreation of a Himalayan glen. The garden itself features collections of rhododendruns, a stunning Dahlia walk, summer bedding displays and Britain’s oldest surviving golden larch, brought from China in the 1850s.
A trip to the site’s Geological Gallery shows how Bateman’s interests went beyond botany — with the unique hallway standing as the result of an impressive attempt to reconcile geology and theology.
