Unlocking the best free days out in Manchester: Longford Park Disc Golf

Looking for a unique day out in Manchester? Take a trip to Chorlton and try your hand at disc golf

Longford Park

(1hr 30 - 2hr)

Close to the city centre, Longford Park is a perfect idea for a free day out in Manchester. Situated just 30 minutes from Manchester City centre, this course offers the perfect outdoor urban activity. The park is located on the border of Stretford and Chorlton-cum-Hardy and is easily reached on public transport.

Getting to the Park

You can conveniently access the upper section of Longford Park from Manchester City Centre using public transport. Board the tram heading towards Altrincham and exit at the Old Trafford stop. From there, head southwest along Trent Bridge Walk until you reach Great Stone Road. Turn left onto Great Stone Road, and you'll find yourself at "The Quadrant." Keep an eye out for the Beacon Centre/Firswood Community Centre (M32 8QS) – the park entrance is located to the right. Alternatively, you can take the number 15 bus from Piccadilly Gardens directly to the Quadrant in Stretford.

Parking

There is complimentary parking available within the park, conveniently located right next to the course. Simply make your way to the entrance off Ryebank Road, following the signs for Longford Stadium (M21 9TA).

The Course

The park boasts an 18-hole course with the option to start from the beginner or advanced tee pad for each hole. Don’t forget to take a peek at the course map before you go.

The course is open and free 24/7. Just bring your discs and crack on! If you don’t have your own discs, don’t worry! You can hire discs at the café for £1 (with a £5 deposit). The café is open from 10:00 - 17:00 every day and sells a variety of baked goods and hot drinks. There are also disabled toilets on site.

Every hole has its quirky name and backstory, like “Apple Turnover” and “Druid’s Dilemma”, somake sure you give the sign on the tee pad a read. This sign will also tell you how far away the basket is and provides tips on how to slot your disc.

Things to do

Longford Park has a variety of landscape features to explore and enjoy, including a mystical stone circle, 60 apple trees, 58 semi-mature trees, and three tree nurseries.

The park also hosts a range of other facilities such as tennis courts, a basketball court, a junior play area and wildlife gardens. Remember: walking boots or wellies are a must in spring and autumn!

Lilford Park

Another course is on its way to Lilford Park. They have already installed 3 tester baskets that you can go and play, but the full 18-hole course is coming soon.
